SMCBA Conference

The first SMCBA conference was held in 1988. Over thirty years on, the 36th SMCBA Electronics Design and Manufacture Conference will be staged concurrently with Electronex.

This year's keynote address at the 2024 Expo was IPC’s Vice-President, Standards & Technology, David Bergman “Digitalization of Electronics Manufacturing- Towards Smart Factory Enabling Industry 4.0”.
Other presentations by specialists in their field included US-based PCB design experts, Mike Creeden and Rick Hartley and Australian Design for Test (DFT) expert, Redback’s Chris Turner as well as Dave Hillman who shared what he has learned in a lifetime of manufacturing and testing defence and aerospace electronics.

SMCBA Hand Soldering Competition

Following the success of the inagural event in Melbourne in 2023 the competition in Sydney featured the “Australasian Round” of the 2024 IPC Global Hand Soldering Competition. Supported by the IPC and the SMCBA the winner will represent Australasia in the international finals in Munich.

Details of the 2025 event will be announced closer to the show and anyone confident of their hand soldering technique is welcome to compete.
